We ask that all adults, both parents and registered leaders, complete Youth Protection Training. There are two main reasons for this: 1) It is important that parents understand how adult leaders are trained to safely work with scouts and 2) Through learning about the BSA policies, parents can help us protect their scouts by educating themselves AND their children.
Youth Protection Training can be accomplished in two ways:
1) Take the course at the Council offices. They are given in the fall and spring, and pre-registration is required. See the event calendar for dates or call Council offices at 301-739-1211.
2) Take the course online.
Go to www.myscouting.org and set up an account. You do not need a membership number and it does not cost anything. Remember your userID and password for this site! Youth Protection Training needs to be redone every two years. Also, there are many other training programs there that you can take advantage of.
Once you've set up your account, click on E-learning (on the left column bar). Make sure you select the Mason-Dixon Council when you are asked for Council number (pull down list).
Select the General tab and select Youth Protection Training.
Once you've completed the course, print out two copies of the certificate. Keep one for yourself and give the other one to an adult leader at the next troop meeting.
